Bankroll management and staking

The single biggest factor in surviving a losing run.

Updated 4 Oct 2026

Even the best tipsters have long losing runs. Staking is what keeps you in the game long enough for an edge to show.

Use units

Set a betting bank you can afford to lose, then define 1 unit as a small fraction of it — typically 1–2%. All tipster results here are shown in units, so you can scale them to your own bank.

Level stakes vs. variable

Level stakes (the same amount every bet) is simple and robust. Variable staking (more on stronger opinions) can improve returns only if the confidence is genuinely predictive — check a tipster's results by stake size.

Know the drawdown

Every tipster profile shows the maximum drawdown — the largest peak-to-trough fall in units. If your bank couldn't survive that, your units are too big.
